The food

I ordered almost everything on the flight.

Cheese Tray 3/10

Scrambled eggs (not mine)
Latte (7/10)
Omelette (6/10)
Fruit plate (8/10)
Beef cheeks (8/10)
Tomato soup (9/10)

Silverware

For each meal on Qatar Airways I've gotten a full set of real metal silverware. And when I say "full set" I mean multiple forks, knives, and spoons. It feels like eight or nine pieces each meal. And I've had three meals. I've seen over twenty pieces of silverware come and go on my tray. At least once there were so many that when I unwrapped my silverware from the napkin a fork fell into a hole in my seat unreachable. Never to be seen again. Probably will be there forever. Luckily I had two more and it won't be missed.

Cheesesteak

I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak from the menu. I do like a good cheesesteak and I was extremely curious to see what a Qatar Airlines cheesesteak looked like. After awhile I was given a cheese plate, and it dawned on me that we had a miscommunication. I reiterated that I had ordered the cheesesteak and was told that yes, this was the cheese plate. It took a few tries before the flight attendant realized what I was saying. "Well enjoy this cheese plate while I go get you the cheesesteak!" The cheesesteak was better than the cheese plate (hard, stinky cheese). The cheesesteak was more of a panini with peppers which was fine (who can argue with a hot sandwich and a beer thirty thousand feet in the air) but probably folks from Philly wouldn't be impressed.

Ten hours into the flight

I'm ten hours into the flight to Doha. It's been quite good. I've slept for 2 hours. I have eaten what feels like thirty meals. I had dinner (multiple courses) and breakfast (multiple courses) along with a smoothie, two lattes, and I'm going to try the Philly cheesesteak.

I watched the Ghostbusters Afterlife movie which I enjoyed. I'm reading a book (A Very Punchable Face, Colin Jost), listening to music, and working on some code puzzles in Python (Advent of Code 2017). The time has gone by pretty quickly, although I feel a little fuzzy with the lack of sleep. The coffee helps. I'm hoping maybe I can get a nap and a shower in Doha during our 8 hour layover.

The wifi is impressively only $10 the entire flight. It isn't "super fast" as advertised. But fine for what I need. I'm taking pictures of all the food and will upload when I get to wifi that is not up in the air.

Qatar Airways

Heading to the Maldives on Qatar Airways via Doha. Starting in Chicago was inauspicious as the lounge represented open but was in fact closed. We decided to make the best of it and ate a Frontera torta (delicious) and by the time we hit the gate they were boarding business class.

The seats are the old 777 seats, not the fancy new QSuites but they are still huge. Like really huge. I changed into my provided sleep suit (by the white company) and sipped champagne. Fancy lotions in the amenity kit but I'm disappointed there's no actual amenity kit bag, just a box. I love the little bags.

Watching a movie and settling in. Fourteen hours to go. Hooray.
