Grand Hyatt Denver

I stayed one night at the Grand Hyatt Denver on a stopover. I found a good rate of $135 a night directly with the hotel and with my Explorist status I get a few perks (I think bottles of water and possible room upgrade).

I chose to avoid the expensive on-site parking ($40 a day or something crazy) and instead parked on the street to check-in. Eventually I found a fine option through SpotHero nearby for $11 overnight rather than pay the hotel parking fees.

The hotel is right near the 16th street pedestrian mall and was walking distance to shopping and restaurants. I would imagine the location would be great for a stay wanting to explore the downtown area. I didn't find the traffic too bad, and was able to find a meter at check-in no problem.

The lobby is nice, with a bar and fireplace and restaurant and market. All what you would expect from a Grand Hyatt. I didn't eat there or spend time at the bar, so no opinion of the quality except that it appeared welcoming.

Upon check-in I got a card that had a number to text if I needed anything. I tried it out, asking where I could find a nice bottle of wine nearby for a gift. I quickly got a helpful reply of the nearest liquor store. It was a good service touch that lived up to the expectation that someone was monitoring the other end with quick and helpful information.

I was upgraded to a corner king room, which didn't feel like a corner although it was at the end of the hall. It was big and had nice windows looking towards the mountains (I could see them through the buildings). It had an oversize chair, along with a desk and area for coffee maker and such. The bathroom was modern and nice, although no tub.

One of the main attractions when I was looking at the hotel online was the rooftop running track. I'm not a fan of the treadmill as I like to run outside. Running in circles on a track is also not great, but a rooftop track was something I had to see.

The track was through the fitness center on the fourth floor. I had visions of the rooftop track being on the 25th floor, but instead it was on the fourth. The workout space was small but the track was a novelty. In the middle of the track was a tennis court with rackets and balls available at the front desk. There was also an indoor pool that looked nice.

Overall an enjoyable if not overly memorable stay.
