Balancing the running

So how do you balance the running with the rest of your life? It was easier when I was training for the marathon. The goal made it easier to make the sacrifice against work or personal commitments. But when you're not training for a marathon, how much running is the right amount of running?

I'm trying to sort out how to maintain a certain level of fitness. Ideally enough that I can run another race - perhaps a 10-miler. Maybe a half-marathon. Maybe even a marathon in the Fall. But how much is maintaining? And how do you prioritize maintaining fitness against the crushing pressure of work? Of kids? Of everything?

It doesn't help that I'm sick. So I'm taking it easy but also worried that it means I'm losing it.
